Dorothy dandridge was an African American film actress, dancer, and singer. She is the most famous African American actress to have made it big time in hollywood. She performed in vocalist venues such as the cotton club and Apollo Theatre.
She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in 1959. Her first on screen appearance was on a short comedy called Our Gang, and then in a hit 1941 musical. She recieved attention for wearing what was considered revealing by the Motion Picture Code, and was cause of some public attention.
She ended up on the Ed Sullivan Show after many performances in films that got hits in the United States. She stopped acting for three years, and reappeared on a movie that became extremely controversial for interracial relationships. She was acting in love with a white actor, and gave the movie a lot of good and bad reviews.
