Apple's Consumer Appeal

When computers were introduced to the public in the 1980s, they were very hard to use since they needed to be programmed to be able to use them. When Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs got into the computer industry, computers were very large and expensive. Their vision for Apple computers was that they wanted everyone to be able to have one and that these computers would be very user-friendly. When small microchips became available, Apple started making their computers smaller and more affordable. Apple was able to transform refrigerator-sized computers into the size that can fit in your backpack. Before laptops, Apple's first computer was the iMac which followed Apple's vision of being more user-friendly. When you unboxed the iMac, all you had to was plug it in and you could start using it. This led the iMac to be the most sold personal computer after its release. Since the 1980s all the way to today, Apple has always been on the forefront of cutting-edge technology and products that customers find easy to use.

  1. The Apple company took advantage of the fact that people weren't really looking at things from a consumer stand point, or if they were they weren't doing a good job of it. The company recognized that the people that wanted to use computers were often discouraged from using them because they didn't know how to use their computers. Apple was able to do something that all the other tech companies were unable to do, make an easily understandable and portable computer.

  2. While technology today seems to be very easy to use and most of the US is beginning to rely on the internet for everyday tasks. However, in the past technology was not as wide spread and user friendly. It seems as though Apple is what initiated this shift to more user friendly technology, and other companies followed in their footsteps.

  3. The Apple company's first step to improving their computers on the market was the change in the physical features of the product. The aesthetic meant everything to the consumers, when apple released their imacs with a variety of different colors they were automatically wanted by the people, without even considering how big and bulky these products were.
