Jazz During the 1930's
The United States was going through it's worse economic crisis it has ever been through. Poeples morals were at an all-time low, as they were all worried about how to get any income. During this time Jazz was born, many people finally started to have fun and go out to dance. The majority of the singers were African American men. Things changed greatly in 1935 marking the beginning of the "swing era." The most famous musicians during the time were Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. They were able to fill ballrooms with huge crowds, when the American people were out at these events they were able to forget all their problems to just have fun.

This is very interesting! I think jazz would have been a great way to lift the moral of people during this time. The time of the Depression was so low for everybody, but having this outlet is good. Also, it seems that it could be a good unifying thing amongst people. There was a lot of tension amongst different people and this could have been a good way to break that tension.
ReplyDeleteDespite the difficulties that were going on in families at this point in time Jazz served as a way to lift weight off of peoples shoulders, and unify them, they bonded over this genre of music which is a great thing because during that time nothing really existed to lift the spirits.
