What was the motivation and purpose for the creation of the Ku Klux Klan?

When we hear KKK we tend to associate them with white supremacy and a lot of hate involved in it, but we don't think aboutwhat the purpose and reason for the creation of this group was. This group was created by peopel that felt like they needed to promote and restore things such as white supremacy and anti-immigration. The KKK had started from 1865 and has had 3 different klans till present day. As seen in the documentaries that we saw in the classroom the klan used many intimidation factors to convey their ideals such as hanging people (mostly african americans) and attacking groups of people that did not agree with their ideals.

Since there has not been a confirmed creator of the klan so people theorize that the origin of the klan might have started with a group of people that wanted to spread their believes and ideals to everyone and how they wanted to restore America to how it used to be like when it first started out.

According to the Wikipedia page on the KKK the klan was mostly popular in the years 1915-1944. The klan had around 3-6 million supporters at that age that agreed with what the klan was trying to do. In present day there has been a tremendous drop in the supporters that reach only 5-8 thousand people. The drop might have heppened because people started to stand up to some of these things that they were doing and they might have supported the other group instead of the klan.

Overall the purpose and motication for the creation and existance of the KKK was to promote and support the political ideologies that they believed in such as white supremacy, anti-immigration, anti-communism, and christian terrorism to name some of the ideals.

  1. The main reason the klan became a thing was in order to protect one type of people (wasp) from the type of people they viewed as inferior (not wasp). From there point of view, all they were doing was defending themselves and there culture. However the way they went about doing so was so for from the norm even people who were wasp themselves began to become skeptics.
